Civil Ceremonies at Hertford Castle

Hertford Castle and The Lion DoorHertford Castle Gatehouse is an authorised venue for weddings and other civil ceremonies: including civil partnerships, renewal of vows, baby naming and funerals.

The magnificent Grade 1 listed building is all that remains of Hertford Castle. The impressive building is set in secluded grounds, hidden from view by the surrounding flint and stone wall. Steeped in history, this prestigious location, in its picturesque setting offers a venue of style and elegance for your ceremony and/or reception.

The Castle's Downshire Suite was remodelled in Georgian style by the Marquess of Downshire in the reign of George III. Comprising three rooms on the ground floor the Downshire Suite offers easy disabled access and complete flexibility for your special day.
For the ceremony only - a two hour package provides:
  • A beautiful, unique and historic setting in riverside gardens.
  • A traditional or a more modern room layout.
  • A dedicated team at hand to help co-ordinate your ceremony.
  • The opportunity to extend the hire if a reception is required.
